Dr. Julie Knapp, Ph.D., BCBA-D is a Pediatric Neuropsychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctorate. She is Executive Director of the Knapp Center for Childhood Development located in Boardman, OH, which specializes in the diagnosis, neuropsychological assessment and treatment of children with autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Knapp offers an International ABA Program assisting families from other parts of the world to travel to the US for ABA therapy. She offers remote training and supervision on ABA programs through a HIPPA secure website to families across the world who otherwise cannot find local ABA therapy or who want expert advice on their program. Dr. Knapp is also a Consultant at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and holds an appointment at Case Western Reserve University. Carolline Turnbull, BA, BCaBA is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst at KidsLink Neurobehavioral Center in Twinsburg, OH. Carolline is a behavior consultant for home and school-based consultation, and developed a dance class for children ages 3-6 with varying disabilities and their neurotypical peers. She completed her Bachelor's degree in speech pathology and audiology at Kent State University and her course work for her BCaBA at Florida Institute of Technology. Carolline has worked in the area of behavioral management of children and young adults with developmental disabilities for 15 years.

Not great

I am a new SLP (please keep that in mind when reading this review) and have had experience using the book A Work in Progress in my internship, which is an excellent book for writing ABA programs for communication skills. For every skill, A Work in Progress provides the reasons for targeting the skill, how to do it, why it's important (very nice to have for when you have to talk to parents), prompting and prompt fading, any skills that are prerequisite, and many ideas for activities. I was hoping that A Complete ABA Curriculum would be something similar but with more advanced skills.

A Complete ABA Curriculum is an enormous book, but they easily could have saved the paper and made it about five times smaller, as the majority of the pages are repeats of essentially the same data sheet for every program. To me, the ways it recommends targeting skills embody the negative stereotype of ABA. That is, it recommends tasks that are, in most instances, totally rote and not functional. For example, for teaching the "real vs. make believe" concept, they recommend printing out pictures of real and make believe people/animals/etc. and having the student sort them into piles. The book provides "examples of prerequisite skills" for some programs, not all. They have "suggested targets" for their programs but they do not list any additional teaching activities or reasoning behind why the skills are important. I was disappointed in the receptive and expressive language skills programs, although I did not look at other programs. Maybe BCBAs or other professionals would view it differently.

Dr. Everett Worthington Jr. has dedicated his life to the study and teaching of marriage and family-related topics.

He is a professor of psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University and has taught at the Universityrsquo;s American Psychological Association–accredited psychology (counseling) program for almost twenty years. A prolific writer and producer of multimedia resources, Dr. Worthington has published twelve books on marriage and family topics and has several others in press or under contract. Additionally, he has published over one hundred chapters or papers in refereed journals and has produced numerous videotapes and audiotapes. Dr. Worthington has won national recognition for his research and teaching and is frequently requested as a speaker before national audiences.

He has provided over one hundred convention presentations and colloquia and has given over fifty presentations at professional workshops and conferences, mostly on marital therapy and enrichment. No stranger to the media, Dr. Worthington and his work have been featured on numerous television and radio programs, newspapers and magazines. He is also a member of nearly ten professional organizations.

A short book, with valuable insights

Simple, generally pretty non-religious (a few Christian references, but I wouldn't call it a "Christian" book) with valuable insights on the value and virtues of humility. This book includes short stories and anecdotes about humility and explains that it can't just be willed. It's something we have to practice. I liked it and got a lot out of reading it.

Outstanding Introduction to Unity!

Unity 4 Fundamentals is an excellent guide to getting started with the Unity game engine.

I read and studied Unity 4 Fundamentals after completing the author’s book Game Development Principles; I suggest considering this path if you are new to game development or if you are learning the Unity Game engine.

Unity 4 Fundamentals is a very thorough introduction to Unity, starting with describing exactly what Unity is and introducing the workflow used for creating games using Unity. The book then dives deeper into the 6 workflow steps and illustrates a wide range of Unity tools to the developer.

The author has a wealth of game design experience, that, together with a very clear writing style, enables him to explain important points in a very clear manner. It is very helpful to have an expert point out to you the key concepts related to the Unity engine and game development in general; putting the knowledge gained from reading Unity 4 Fundamentals will save you a lot of time and it will help you establish a very efficient and intelligent development workflow.

The projects associated with the book are very clear and emphasize key concepts. The author has a number of related videos - I found the video Introduction to C# Programming and Scripting for Games in Unity at [...] very helpful, given that I had never written code in the C# language.

Meh. It's okay.

I am new to Unity and this book, while being a VERY basic introduction to Unity, is pretty redundant and slow at times. I found myself thinking "Okay get on with it already!". I don't need to be told 15 times how to navigate the Project folder for instance. It's just super wordy to the point where you can't see the forest for the trees. Unity is pretty intuitive, and I feel like this book focuses on the stuff that is very easy to learn yourself, rather than the juicy items that matter the most. It does give some good general "rules of thumb" as well as defining a 6 step workflow and explaining it thoroughly. I guess for some, they need this level and speed of initial instruction. If you are a COMPLETE newb in the technology world, this is probably a great book. If you are more of a power user, programmer, or have some experience in the subject matter, you may learn a few things if you can get through it.

Access code that came with the textbook worked, textbook itself is really helpful that it's in looseleaf format, I only carry 14 pages of the book a day/whatever chapter we're studying in class instead of the entire thing.
