About the Author
Clark L. Hull PhD (1884-1952) was a psychologist and experimenter. He presented lectures and seminars on hypnosis at the University of Wisconsin, then later at Yale University. Hull's work "Hypnosis and Suggestibility" was first published in 1933. It was the first extensive systematic investigation of hypnosis using quantitative experimental methodology. In 1936 his contribution to the field of psychology was rewarded with his election as President of the American Psychological Association. His published contributions to the science of psychology include "Principles of Behavior" (1940), followed by a revision of his theories in "Essentials of Behavior" (1943). His last work, "A Behavior System", was published shortly before his death in 1952.

Only if you're interested in the making of the covers

[[VIDEOID:moG03PTW8C4WLA]]This book is presented in hardcover, roughly the same size as the comics. Inside, it collects cover art of the single issue volume 1-50, trade paperback volumes 1-8, Books 1-4 and Deluxe Hardcovers 1-2. There are also sketches and unused designs.

If you are a collector of the comics, you already have majority of the art. The reason to buy this book is probably the commentary if you're interested in how they come up with the covers. Creator Robert Kirkman, artists Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard look back in hindsight at what they like and the ones that didn't work out well.

The art is beautiful but there are a few misses as well - all that are mentioned in the commentary provided.

This book is more for the ultimate collectors. Casual fans probably can do without it. Besides, most of the cover art can be found easily online.

Covers of comics, not the actual comic.

I bought this book because I didn't have the covers of the comics. I had purchased the Compendium's 1 and 2 of the walking dead comics, however there aren't any covers in the book. The quality of the paper is a very good glossy paper, with fully colored and very detailed comic covers from the series. Each cover has a little bit of bonus info about the cover. For anyone who may be confused THIS IS NOT THE COMICS, ONLY THE COVERS OF ISSUES 1 - 50.

For The Art Enthusiast As Opposed To The Casual Fan--An In-Depth Look At Process

"The Walking Dead" is an undeniable classic in zombie lore, graphic novels, and great storytelling. Trust me, I'm a huge fan! And, on its fifth anniversary, we get this handsome collection of art. If you've purchased any of the hard cover editions of "The Walking Dead," "The Covers" is the same approximate size and assembles the cover illustrations from the first 50 issues of the series. It also has some bonus covers from various collections and reprints. The layout of this volume has the covers, full sized and in color, on the left page while the right page has supplemental information. The new material provides context from creator Robert Kirkman and artist insight from Tony Moore and Charles Adlard. There are rough sketches, sample layouts, art discussions and some anecdotal material. It's all very pretty and well put together.

But is it necessary? That's a qualified maybe. I own all of "The Walking Dead" and I guess I just didn't feel the need for this additional piece. If you are an aspiring artist, however, or are fascinated by art theory--this may indeed be something you'd find compelling. It is most successful at discussing the process of illustration. There is an audience for "The Covers," it is just a specialized one. If you're a completist, "The Covers" would also make a lovely coffee table book if that appeals to you--but I need another coffee table book like I need a hole in my head. In no way would I discourage a fan from buying "The Covers"--just realize that this one's all about the art! KGHarris, 10/10.

I loved this book a lot in my college writing class

I loved this book a lot in my college writing class. It was so different from all the other material that we had to look over. The story itself is simple, but hits home with topics that many teens and young adults struggle with. Acceptance, norms, and being understood are highlighted as well as the idea of being an outsider. As easy at it is to digest, this story makes huge statements in how humans perceive themselves in relation to others as well the internal struggle that every human being fights at least once in their life. Great read and lovely illustrations.

Wonderful -- and scary -- coming-of-age comic

This graphic novel by Vera Brosgol comes across, at least initially, as a typical teen coming-of-age story. Anya Borzakovskaya is the daughter of a Russian immigrant. She’s frustrated with her family, frustrated with school, frustrated with her (kinda sorta) best friend Siobhan, frustrated with her body and her (lack of) love life and everything else around her. And then one day, Anya falls into a hole in the park and finds a skeleton. And the skeleton comes with a ghost attached — a skinny little girl named Emily who’s been stuck in the hole for 90 years.

When Anya gets rescued, Emily ends up tagging along. Anya doesn’t much want a ghost in her life, but she is helpful in certain ways. She can help her with answers during tests. She can find out when her crush will be out of class. She gives her tips on being popular. Emily wants to be Anya’s friend forever. And that could be a problem, because Emily is keeping secrets, and she’s a lot more dangerous than she lets on…

I wasn't expecting a lot from this. It starts out the way we’ve seen a couple dozen other graphic novels — misunderstood geek girl, unhappy with her life, grows up, becomes more mature, learns to appreciate the friends and family she has and maybe makes some more friends, too.

This one? It follows the familiar path for a while, and then, slowly, it turns into fairly straightforward horror. The end goal is still the same — personal and emotional growth for the protagonist — but it’s interesting how much the tension and fright ramps up, and how serious and powerful the threat becomes. There’s no gore or anything like that, but it’s still a nice piece of low-key horror.

The characters are great, too. Anya and Emily are the obvious focal points, but Anya’s mother and brother are also very well-created. Everyone else is fun, too — there’s not a dull character in the bunch — snarky Siobhan, geeky Dima, skeezy Sean, beautiful but miserable Elizabeth, even the school principal at the end.

Vera Brosgol’s art is moderately cartoony, but cartooning helps make the characters and situations more universal, more appealing, and more emotional. And the art does a fantastic job of conveying the humor of the story, as well as the eerie shenanigans going on behind the scenes.

Yikes! I got this one wrong! My ten year old loves graphic novels - think Sisters or Awkward - this came up as similar. But it's really not the right age group. Lots of smoking, poor language... she was loving the ghost part, but might be dark for some.
Lesson learned that I need to pay closer attention selecting these types of books!

Great book for technophobes!

Great instructional book. I hate electronics, electrical theory, and government-required testing, and I STILL PASSED ,
Read/studied the book 3x, and relied on my college physics education to help. The author, Mr. West, has an obvious love of ham radio, and loves to share his incredible knowledge!
I was intellectually challenged by the testing depth, but this book is a God-send! Thanks!

Best I've found

I purchased this for my family so they could study for the latest Technician license test. While I did not read this one, I did read Gordon's 2010-2014 Technician book, as well as the General 2011-2015 (passed both, btw). I had a few other books that I worked with (i.e., the ARRL offerings) but honestly, for someone completely new to this field, Gordon's approach really worked for me.

He gives you some tips/tricks for remembering the answers, explains why the answers are the right answers; and also, most importantly, identifies those questions that are really thrown in there to annoy you (and will basically have no meaning once you get on the air).

You might want to get the ARRL books also, as you'll get a lot more background; they are more for educating. Gordon's books do teach you a bit, but the purpose is really to pass the tests. Also, if you're great at memorizing, definitely buy this book!

Passed in just over a week of study

I signed up for some classes held by a local ham club to study for my Technician Class license. Gordon's book was the required reading. The classes were meant to be one Saturday each week for a month with the test on the final day. However after just over a week of studying the book I found I was averaging 30 out of 36 right on the practice exams, so I skipped the rest of the classes and just took my test. I passed! This book not only had the questions with the correct answers but explained the answer in a paragraph and/or illustration so I was able to understand the concepts and reasoning of the answer. I found this to be an excellent study guide and I recommend it to anyone who is just starting out.

Finger Lickin Good!!

It is exactly what it is described to be. A steamy, sexy, first time gay, short story. It is all of these things and it is executed perfectly. It gives just enough to leave you wanting more, and doesn't have a lot of useless prattle sometimes used to fill in space for a higher word count. I enjoyed the concept of this book. What an erotic fantasy, to see your sexy-as-sin neighbor in a compromising position and then getting to actually act out said fantasy with that neighbor!! It is a gem of a find. I am definitely adding Brandon Redstone to my list of favorite erotic short story authors!

awful beginner book

we must use this series at my current workplace.... AWFUL book. I have used or reviewed more than a dozen sets of ESL/EFL books over the years and this is probably the worst beginner book i have had to use. the rest of the series is good, but this beginner book is more work (for both student and teacher) than it is worth.

Si ya usted ley� el "Enigma Sagrado", es poco lo que este le va a aportar. B�sicamente es una repetici�n de la primera parte de aquel. Que Jes�s no muri� en la cruz, y que huyo a Egipto con Mar�a Magdalena, que tuvo un hijo con ella. Bueno, toda esa historia. Algo nuevo quiz�s es que se escribe que todas sus ense�anzas m�sticas fueron aprendidas durante su infancia en Egipto. Da tambi�n una historia de los tiempos de Jes�s. En general el libro est� bien escrito, pero el material ya fue usado, repito, en otro libro del autor.

Must Read Crime Story

This crime short story is an easy read with likable characters. If you want to be entertained, then this is the short story for you! Mr. West pulls you in at page one, you immediately bond with Ryan as he learns his fate with the firm. The dialogue between friends throughout the book is humorous as they attempt to solve the mystery, while keeping each other out of trouble. I didn't want it to end ... I hope there are more books in the series, this is definitely a WINNER!!!

Must Read!

If you like funny crime short stories, you should definitely get this one. I
laughed at these characters all the way along as they bumble around to keep one
of them from facing a murder charge. It's a really good buddy story involving
hilarious amateurish but effective detective work. Very enjoyable.

The Next John Grisham

The Massive Hole Theory is a quick, fun read! As a former law firm lawyer, I could really relate to the main character. Everyone who has ever been frustrated with their bosses can relate to Ryan's thoughts and put themselves in his shoes when his venting gets him into trouble. Unlike some mysteries, the real killer is not obvious and the ending is satisfying. I think Michael West is the next John Grisham. Looking forward to the next one!
